Dance

by Ashley Clemens

Every year Goodhue Public High School holds a non formal homecoming dance following the Friday night football game. For many students it is one of the highlights of homecoming week.

When asked what they imagined the dance being like, 7th graders Will Opsahl and Jada Scheele said that they heard it is very exciting and fun. Will said he imagines it being crazy and loud. Jada said she was very excited because she heard homecoming dances are the best part of homecoming.

Senior Mason Huemann said that his most memorable dance was his 7th grade year because of all the older ladies who danced with him. Senior Abby Doerhoefer’s most memorable dance was the homecoming dance of 2016 following the game where the lights went out. She recalled that everyone was super pumped after the big win. This was also the year  the D.J. didn’t show up, but former Goodhue student Lanny Reese came to the rescue. He brought his D.J equipment and saved the dance.

This year the high school welcomed D.J. Lanny back again. When asked how she predicted this year's dance to be Doerhoefer said “It is going to be totally lit because I am a senior”. After the dance Huemann was not happy. He reported that his date was not allowed in because he did not fill out a form. He didn’t even go to the dance. Doerhoefer said that the dance was lame because not many people showed up. She also said that the best part of the dance was the people who made it special.

7th grader Madison Ferguson said that the homecoming dance was amazing, the best part was dancing with her friends. She said that the only thing that would have made it better would be if it wasn’t as crowded.

Volleyball on Sand

Boys Volleyball Game

By, Travis Gadient

The goodhue homecoming 2017 was one to remember it was fun and full of school spirit. The week started out with a big L for the girls volleyball team when they lost in 3 games to cannon falls but everyone knew the real excitement was thursday when the senior boys play the junior boys in volleyball.

Both teams feeling confident the day before with remarks from the seniors Casey Ryan “it's gonna go very well for us we will dominate early, it will be over fast”. The juniors also had some bold predictions from there man Jon quade said “I predict we will win I will definitely spike jack in the face and we will get the dub for sure”. In my interview I also asked the athletes how they prepare for such a tremendous competition like this one Casey said he’s gonna have a good night's sleep wake up have a good breakfast make sure he's got all that protein plenty of water because he can't be having cramps out there. Jon said he's been working out everyday leading up to this event and he's planning on getting jacked to some music before the game, he thinks that's enough to get him prepared to win thursday.

The game started out with a surprize victory from the juniors dominating in the first game leaving it 1-0 juniors . Next game the seniors took an early lead and came back to beat the juniors in game two. Game three was over fast with the seniors now making it look easy and took the victory over the juniors by winning their 2nd match. The seniors went on the play the staff, boy was that ugly they ended up losing all 3 matches they almost won one of the games but came up a couple points short and went home disappointed.

I send out a survey to the juniors and seniors on who they think there MVPs were. The juniors voted Jake Christensen as their MVP and the seniors picked Casey Ryan with Chase Hinch (the Homecoming king) coming in as a close 2nd just one vote behind Casey. The Juniors and seniors voted for best dressed, the juniors very own ninja turtles won (Matt k, Carter, Bjorn, Sam). I interviewed Jake Christensen asking about how he felt he performed and if they are ready for next year to face next year's juniors jake said “I felt like we could have performed better as a team and took home the W but we can use this experience to help us next year” when asked if his grade will get redemption next year against next year's juniors he said definitely we commin for them they don't stand a chance.

Boys Basketball Upcoming Season

By Carson Morken

After the last two years there is a lot of pressure on the basketball team this year. They graduated all of their starters last year and then some. They will have to work hard to get to where they have been in the past. I have talked to some players and their coach. The players say they should win about half or a little over half of their games this year. I talked to Jacob Christensen and Samuel Hinsch about there upcoming season.

I asked them, after the last years season how do you think this one will go. They both had somewhat of the same answers. They said that it won’t start off that well, but throughout the season we will get better and win more games.

Samuel Opsahl said  “It won’t be as pretty as last year but we should win half of our games.”

I then asked them about state and if they should make it again this year. Christensen said “I sure hope so.” Hinsch said no, and Opsahl said “gonna be tough but we have a chance.” I went on and asked what they need to do to get to where they were last year. They all said that they need “to hard work.”

I talked to coach Halverson and I asked how far they’ll get in the section he said “It is way too early to tell. Every year our goal is the same-to get to the state tournament. The process is different from year to year, but the goal remains. We will have to be very focused and willing to work very hard in order to accomplish that goal.” I then went on and asked who your hardest competition is this year and he responded with “In our sub-section Southland and BA will be very good. I fully expect them to be the class of our sub-section. On the other side of the section, RP, Kingsland, and Spring Grove will all be expected to have very good seasons.”

They will have a freshman captain this year which they hope can lead the team to victories. His name is Samuel Opsahl and Christensen and Hinsch said that” they need him on the courts at all time.#GOAT and #D1.” They hope that the season ends well and they make it to state.

Girls Basketball Upcoming Season

By Tino Parra
The girls basketball season this year will be very exciting according to Mr. Wiemie he said that we will be looking for some new faces to fill some big shoes since almost all the good players graduated last year and will be hard to replace, but there will also be some returning players to turn into stars, he also said that we have a good number of kids to look at and see which ones are going to shine some of the strengths that we had last year won't be our strengths this year but we also brought back some very nice players so i think we will still have the chance to win a lot of games, Wiemie believes that we will be near the top of our conference as well as one of the top teams in our section. He also said that our section is very difficult this year, but he believes that we will go to state and whoever goes to state will have a great chance to win it. Last year when we won state he said that he felt a lot of joy and amazement he was amazed that the team could've done it again specially being one of the teams that beat us last year and a lot of sadness because that meant that a lot of kids played their last game for him. I also asked some of the girls and mekaylla said that she thinks we will do good this year but not as good as last year but she said that we will probably make it to state this year if the girls try hard enough, she said that when we won state last year she felt amazing even tho she didn't play it still felt good to watch them play. I also talked to Abby j and she said that she believes that they will do good this year but it will take some work because it's a totally different team she also said that there's a possibility to go to state. Abby said that she felt excited and kind of fulfilling when they won state last year.
